The Punjab and Haryana High Court in Chandigarh was temporarily evacuated on Thursday afternoon following a bomb threat received via email. The alert triggered an immediate response from law enforcement agencies, including the Chandigarh Police, Operation Cell, fire department, and rescue teams, who rushed to the site to conduct a thorough search.
The High Court Bar Association promptly issued a notice informing all advocates and staff about the threat and advised them to vacate the premises as a precautionary measure. In the advisory, the Association urged members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or unattended objects within the court complex to the relevant authorities immediately.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, the court resumed proceedings post-lunch around 2:00 PM after initial checks found no explosive material. However, security remains tight, and searches continue in and around the premises to rule out any risk.
Interestingly, this incident comes just a day after a similar hoax bomb threat was reported at Gurugram Mini Secretariat. The threat, also received via email, led to temporary evacuations before authorities declared the alert a false alarm.
Adding to the concerns, Ambala Railway Station also reportedly received a bomb threat on Thursday afternoon. While initial assessments suggest these may be hoax threats, officials say all alerts are being treated seriously to ensure public safety.
